Today (February 24) is my 30th birthday and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to try to help some of the millions of children who are homeless and exploited in India and other countries of Asia. It devastates me deeply that even one child should live in circumstances of abuse, neglect, starvation, and hopelessness. Yet some estimates state that there are over 100 million homeless children around the world! These children face starvation and exploitation. Girls risk being sexually exploited, and forced to live a life of devastating abuse. Boys are at risk of using drugs, and becoming involved in gangs, often killing people to make money.

When reading "No Longer a Slumdog" by K.P. Yohannan, the founder of Gospel for Asia, one story impacted me greatly. This is what he wrote;

"One of the most shocking reports I have ever read appeared in the Indian Express several years ago. On the front page was a photo of a little boy, half naked, lying on the sidewalk of a busy street. Next to the boy was a dog. Upon closer inspection, I saw that it was a female dog, and the little boy was actually sucking her milk. The caption read, 'This Dog Is His Mother.' The three-column article went on to describe the heartbreaking agony that homeless children face as they try to survive on their own."

There is hope for these children though! Through organizations such as Gospel For Asia, these children can have a better life and a meaningful future. These children can go from circumstances of starvation, neglect, and abuse to living in a loving environment, with their nutritional needs being met, a roof over their heads, an education, and to be given hope once again; knowing that they are loved profoundly by a God who has a purpose for their future.
