We turn on a tap in our homes and we receive water. Not just water, but clean water. Water absent of bacteria and disease which can cause illness even death. We do not have to walk for miles to retrieve water for drinking and cooking alone, we must simply walk to a faucet. We do not have to walk to ponds or rivers to wash our clothes or bathe. We wash our dishes in water, we wash our cars, we wash our pets, we water our lawns, we even wash our driveways...with water. Water is truly the measure by which we may say we are truly a wealthy nation.
Now imagine the contrast of those caught in the caste system of India. Many villages are not allowed access to drinking water because they are considered "unclean." Villagers, often women, walk miles to ponds and streams to fill up jugs with dirty water. And that is during the rainy season. During the dry season, many women must collect muddy water from the sands by dry lakes and streams, by digging down several feet. Please, just imagine this. What would your day look like if it took you 2-3 hours just to obtain drinking water?
That is why we are excited to partner with Gospel for Asia in their Jesus Well Campaign. Gospel for Asia has created a way to economically drill for fresh water that can last a village 20 years, pumping water 8 hours a day. And they can do this for the price of $1400.00. The added bonus of these wells is that they are also a testament to the love of Jesus Christ. Each well has a plaque in the native language of the village that reads from John 4:13-14... 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
Gospel for Asia's Jesus Wells are different in that they not only provide water for the physical body, but they are providing a path to Christ also. Something that some of the other charities that provide water do not do. Please consider your wealth, above your income and things you own, but your wealth just to be in a nation with clean water access in your home. Please give to this cause and use social media to spread the word and the link to your friends and family, neighbors and co-workers. Let them know that you and your church are trying to make a difference in the lives of others around the world and that water can make that difference. Especially water given by Jesus.
